CARDIAC REHAB WEEK

This week (February 8th-14th) we celebrate ‘Cardiac Rehab Awareness Week’, highlighting the vital role of rehabilitation in recovering from heart disease, heart attacks, or surgery and highlighting the importance of long-term recovery and lifestyle changes.

Hearts & Souls are proud to support the local Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust Cardiac Rehab Unit based in Wycombe hospital and highlight the crucial work they do within our community.

The initiative focuses on raising awareness of personalised exercise, education, and support programs that reduce future risks and improve quality of life.

Key aspects of Cardiac Rehabilitation are:

Structure: Typically, a 6–12 week program consisting of weekly sessions lasting about 2.5 hours, including supervised exercise (warm-up, circuit, cool-down) and education.

Components: Sessions cover medication management, healthy eating, smoking cessation, and physical activity advice.

Support: Programs are designed to improve physical, emotional, and psychological health, helping patients regain confidence after a cardiac event.

Access: Patients are usually referred by their hospital, but they can also contact local teams or the British Heart Foundation for information.

Flexibility: Options often include group classes (in-person or online) or home-based programmes.
