The statement below was presented at the Hearts & Souls AGM held on 18th September 2024
Chairman’s Statement:
Having been elected Chairman last year, following the sad passing of Steve Wildman, I am still learning the ropes regarding the operation of Hearts & Souls with the charity having not yet returned to its ‘traditional’ fund raising and support of the rehab unit as seen pre-Covid.
However, over the last year some normality appears to be returning in the Ward 4A Rehab unit of the NHS and funding has been requested which we are pleased to support and currently in the process of providing, leading to a more optimistic future and a closer working relationship with the rehab unit.
It is with regret, but understandable, that Stuart Jaggard has given notice of his intention to stand down after this meeting as the charity secretary after 10 years of loyal service, and I wish to pass on my personal thanks for his dedication which will have no doubt benefited many patients over this period. This does leave the charity in a desperate position to fill this vital role in order that Hearts & Souls can continue and contribute to help maintain the excellent service that is offered to the residents of Buckinghamshire in coronary rehabilitation.
There has again been minimal fund raising activity over the past year with no charity led events being organised, however we remain in a financially strong position and as mentioned, committed to use some of our reserve in support of the rehab unit. We do not have plans to restart fundraising activities until we know and have clarity on the shape of the support we can provide long term. But our funds continue to grow due to the ongoing generosity of individuals and companies, for which we are most grateful.
We are still confident that 2024 should be the year when post pandemic clarity is evident and the future activities of Hearts & Souls can be planned. If you could offer some time and expertise to assist on our committee then please let me know.
