Hearts & Souls wish to thank the Penn Pond Waders Golf Society for their very generous donation of £8,000.00 to the charity.
Penn Pond Waders was founded in 1989 by a small group of golfers based at the Red Lion PH at Penn (just opposite the pond!). The society was formed to create an opportunity for members to play various courses throughout the area and to run a number of competitions with prizes at each event.
Each year the club captain gets to choose a charity to support and the society raises money throughout the year by various fund raising events culminating in an end of year ‘Captains Charity Event’, which Hearts & Souls attended to promote the charity. Past beneficiaries have included Macmillan Cancer Support, Diabetes UK, Chiltern Prostate Support Group, Help for Heroes, Head Wrappers and Pancreatic Cancer UK and we are grateful to be recognised and added to the list of such worthy recipients.
The 2025 captain, Airon Duke, nominated Hearts and Souls as he attended the cardiac rehabilitation in Wycombe during 1997 after suffering a heart attack and receiving quadruple bypass at Harefield Hospital.
Hearts & Souls secretary Tim Clarke was pleased to accept the donation on behalf of the charity during the society’s special presentation at the Horse & Jockey public house in Tylers Green on Friday 27th February.
As with most NHS services, funding for the Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit is limited resulting in the team struggling to meet the current demand of patients recovering from cardiac events, potentially relying on funds from Hearts & Souls to help with the purchase of equipment, staff training and to cover just a basic level of service over the next 2 to 3 years.
This, and any other donations received by Hearts & Souls, will go directly to support the cardiac rehab team to improve the outcome for recovering cardiac patients.
